Have we come to far?

16-11They stood before the magistrate,
He began…
We are gathered hear today
to join this pair in marriage
if there be anyone with objections
let him now come forward…
If not
then we shall begin…
By the powers granted me by the people
of this sovereign state, I ask…
do you wish to be joined
in marriage?
Each of you must answer
I do…
Or some form of acceptance,
with that being done
I now pronounce you …
I’m sorry
I just can’t do this
please take your Pomeranian and leave.

I'm intrigued by the story and wonder if it were really true. But your poem does raise some interesting ideas of how far will we really go. Will we become absolutely absurd in our moral fiber? Hmmm....Michelle
