A Young People's Poem

by

If I went to the Amazon
I would find a Little shack
with tons of cobwebs
and make a broom of sticks.

If I went to the Amazon
I could name a river after myself
but probably must find one
that was only a little creek
and name it after the local tribesman
instead.

If I went to Amazon
I could enjoy the sounds and smells
much better than any city .
as long as I remembered
to bring mosquito lotion.

If I went to the Amazon
I would never get malaria
for they give you a big bottle of quinine
to share with all your guides.

In the Amazon my guides,
would know all of the secret paths
and cut small trees down with machetes
to make paths and huts.

And if I went to the Amazon
they would speak cool languages.
I would learn some of that too
and the names of all the trees in the jungle.

When I returned
from my trip
nobody would much care
and I would have so very many secrets.

A good moral: people don't care when the youth are merry.

That's why we live on.
No diamonds. Just the sun. Nature. Happiness. Smiles.

Even though, the secrets sometimes shred people. Still. You live on.
