Poems - Daddy’s cane
| | Daddy’s caneby MoZark
It’s where he left it,
I should put it away,
just can’t, maybe later.
Sometimes in the quiet I think I hear
click, click, click in the hall,
or coffee brewing in that old percolator;
but no, it’s there on the doorknob
Daddy’s old oak hand made cane.

What a wonderful keepsake you have, Jack, to remember him by - along with this truly powerful poem.

Much thanks; it hung in the closet for little over twenty years before I had to take it up, just a temporary thing. Have a grand tomorrow…Jack

I don’t remember when he made the cane but I remember him using it in his later years.
For myself, the knee will only get worse, I need a transplant and that I plan on doing next year. Thanks for your kind response. Have a grand tomorrow…Jack

Sometimes we save thing and don’t know why. My wife went to garage sales and saved other peoples stuff, and I didn’t know why, but there again those things have become memories for me. thank you for your comment and concern.

There used to be a TV series over here called ''Steptoe''. They were junk men, and the house was full of junk. My house is just like that. I scratch my head sometimes wondering why I bought things, Thought they might be useful one day, but that day never comes. I suppose I should declutter but I haven't got the will to part with anything. It would be the biggest evacuation since the second world war if I did. I have everything from around 20 parrot cages, a soldier's helmet too small for me. a pair of clip on ice skates boxed never used, and masses of books, I never read. sheer madness. Take care Pete. P.s, you don't want to buy a hundred telephones do you.?. I have them too.

Omg this poem gave me goose bumps I loved it so much. I have my moms wedding band. She didn't want to be buried with it. I cherish it and wear it when I want to be close to her.

How nice of you bringing this one up and for the comment about your mom’s ring
There’s a comfort in the thing we associate with those not with us anymore.
Thank you for your time. Have a grand tomorrow…Jack
