awaiting another echo

by wylde

.

chaste anointing oils
of ash
bark at the willows eyes.
a sense of ember gloom
hangs hung
ulcered in frail drapes.

motes & mites sweep splintered brooms.

a corridor of uncertainty unlocks
trundled echoed steps
furroughed in moments from far ago

wending their wearied way upto my closed mind
as the door holds it breath

death & limbs smile
nodding harmoniously to the crusty silence
locks of flaxen hair lie dying
curled unheard whisperscreaming

the disturbed dust of experiences
swirl then settle
undisturbed

awaiting another echo

.

Now, if only I could "whisperscream" like that, similar to what Chris said. However, I am not sure "furroughed" is a word. I looked it up, but all I found was "furrow" which I already knew the definition to. Regardless, this is a magical, although philosophical piece of work. I like the feeling of multiplicity in this poem: the word choice is off the hook; the phrases are fresh and innovative; the poem is just automatically slick!

Fuchsia - thanks for feeling the 'slickness'.

you are 100% correct re furroughed vs furrow. i used the former for a few reasons, to intensify the 'feel' of the depth of the gouge of the 'furrow' i spelled it similarly as to 'ploughed' vs plow....as well as linking it then to furlong, a unit of length used especially in horse racing....old english furlang, from furh 'furrow' + lang 'long'. the word originally denoted the length of a furrow in a common field (formally regarded as a square of ten acres). it was also used as the equivalent of the roman stadium, one eighth of a Roman mile, whence the current sense.
    just poetic licence play. heh
