Sunset

I have seen
the dawning of new years
watched sunsets
o’er the dying old.

My eyes are tired
the road has been long
dust has settled
where the waters flowed.

I have dreamed
where the mornings end,
found peace
in the setting sun.

The drummer
has set the pace
from whence this child
has come.

I’ll walk the slow walk
at eventide
hand in hand
with my only girl.
