Casualty detail

by Essex68

The air is thick, the crater red.
Everything is spread, smouldering torsos.
Limbless and dead.
“What a fucking mess”

Now the jigsaw begins, we called it
casualty detail.
Body bags and heaving guts, if you found
all your friend you were in luck.
But arms and legs all look the same when
They’re not attached.

You might remember a wrist watch, or a
certain try kicking calf.
We found young Daniels forearm
forty yards away.
We knew it was his, he had a tattoo, just a heart
and the words “Love you mum”

W R Baker

you're so versatile, three super poems evoking different emotions and all so well.

Thank you deepali, I do try to be versatile, I don't like to get stuck in any particular genre of writing. I go with the mood of the moment.
