Did you really find GOD in a Fortune cookie?

by Danny-R

Did you really find GOD in a Fortune cookie?

I cannot claim the cloak of innocence
for deeds I do no more, and yet... did once.
My catholic culture, quelled, still seems immense
contributing to this,,, deistic dunce.

Those years lost in the faiths which came before..
entrusting in the tales of those who care(?).
Enlightened and yet frightened by the lore
of folk who read the stars and said, "Beware".

"If I am real,... the voice within your head,
what kind of test or jest could I have planned?"
How many meanings hide in the UNsaid?
A "God" would surely help us,.. understand?

I ask with no real hope for your reply...
"You dare to question?".... If...the question's...WHY!

Having been blessed with a Catholic elementary school education and all the resulting sense of awe and fear... perhaps I am not the best poet to be commenting on your question.

But, with all the recent attention to religion focused on sports (Tebow) and politics (Latter Day Saints) and off-beat fear mongers (dooms-day scenarios) I remain convinced a higher power exists, although I know not what form it takes.

Someone's probably gonna get me for this, but I have very little faith in organized religion of any sort, although I found your poem to be thoughtful and thought-provoking; well worth contributing a comment thereon.

Very best wishes, my friend - Mary Ann
