Make An Impact

( tribute to Joe Paterno fondly known as JoePa to Penn State University)

His father told him make an impact
when he chose a career as a college football coach.
He left a legacy of loyalty, leadership and trust.

Of his players he insisted on academic excellence
as well as athletic ability and perseverance.
His father told him make an impact

and he did. A father figure to many,
JoePa led with an iron will and a loving heart.
He left a legacy of loyalty, leadership and trust.

As we mourn his passing we remember
the man who never gave up, because
his father told him to make an impact.

Many of his players moved on to greatness
and in their accomplishments
he left a legacy of loyalty, leadership and trust.

Joe Paterno was more than a football coach,
he was a champion for Penn State University,
he left a legacy of loyalty, leadership and trust.
His father told him to make an impact.

even i've heard of him bonnie and i know nothing about american college football......there was an english football coach called brian clough who won everything in the game that it was possible to win. he was always described as " the best manager that england never had ". he was never given the job of england manager, because he was just too good. he would have made the beurocrats and press experts look ridiculous.
it's possible to make an impact in many different ways - paul and the impact hound.

Zee, this is a most marvelous villanelle (I don't know what that is but Leena used it so that must be what it is) tribute to a coach with a capital Cee. We're lucky here in New Mexico to have a Paterno-like Coach in Mr. Steve Alford, University of New Mexico basketball coach. Teachers expecting excellence - what a concept! Magnificent work, Bonnie.
