Who Will Be There?

Who will be there to dance
in the eternal garden of Eden
when the apples have all fallen
and lay rotten upon the ground.

Who will hearken to the call
of the trumpets triumphant blare
as the snake twists and turns
through the decay and rot?

Who will lift up their voices
in unholy songs of praise
when naked bodies hide in shame
their sins visible like jagged scars.

Who will look up to the sky
as guilt lurks in their souls
hear the sounds of angel’s harps
in discordant harmonies?

Who will be there in the end
to answer why we destroyed
with such callousness and greed
the earth that gave us life?

Who will acknowledge the destruction
the willful ignorance of man
whose self-centered nature forgot to plan
for generations still to come?

Will you be among the dancers?
Will you lift up your voice in song
or hide your sins with leaves of figs?
I simply ask – who will be there?
