Self-medicate

Self-medicate

Better to ignore than to face head-on
The worries that envelop and consume
Never acknowledging anything’s wrong
Keep an island of numb amongst the gloom
Push it away until there’s no regret
Make it so far it can never return
Over time one can learn how to forget
And enjoy watching bridges as they burn
Lingers still the emptiness of the soul
Begin the vain search to simply placate
Although nothing will ever make one whole
With a bottle start to self-medicate

oh eric, this is so true of so many people. instead of dealing with their problems they try to ignore them and find ways to escape. excellent write.
