Who Will Come to Our Rescue?

by Zbird

I took off my rose colored glasses
Pollyanna died and faded away,
Alice fell down the rabbit hole
the prince of darkness is here to stay.

The ivy that covered the brick walls
shriveled up and died on the vine,
no more dreams of the future as I
drink from the chalice of sour wine.

The stained glass windows are broken
idols smashed all the pieces now scattered,
we try to glue them together
as if any of it ever really mattered.

There’s no one left to blame
karma has come to claim its due,
as it counts off our sins one by one
who will come to our rescue?

I like the delicate rhyming, it seems so natural it almost passed me by, not seeming forced at all. Detailed and descriptive, I really enjoyed reading this piece

"as if any of it ever really mattered"...
quietly knocks and leaves you thinking.

G'day Bonnie...
As humanity gets more and more sophisticated we seem to get further away from natures intent with balance. Who will come to our rescue?
Thank you Bonnie

This is a very honest poem. At some point in all of our lives, we must remove the rose colored glasses, face reality and let karma have it's due. It's the cycle of life.
I could keep reading and re-reading this poem. It's a favorite!
