Rain

by FuchsiaFestival!

Clouds stare
like canopies waiting to be seen.
Sending roily scents
to tree skeletons,
water vapor lips
pluck at bitter limbs.

Rain falls through,
limbs curl
into miniature snails
unfurling like thoughts;
waters plunge
a moat into the grass.

Slithering,
a scrawny surface
weeping.
No, the rain has
not yet decayed.

"Roily" - now there's a new word for me!

As I said in the forums, it's a fantastic poem, the best of yours I have read, with marvellous concrete imagery that is truly evocative of a certain type of scene. Kudos to ya, Sammi!

"Roily" is a word I learned with curiosity. It's one of those words that just "rolls off the tongue," in my opinion.

Thank you, I'm glad this projected a scene. Many times, I have difficulty communicating in a discrete fashion. I think I'm becoming better at it, however.

Thank you. This, to me, had a bit of a darker flare with surreal lineups. I think it's too ambiguous to explain to somebody else. Nobody can "get" another person's imagery exactly, precisely. Ideas are too disparate from one another.

Sammi - I must agree - this is absolutely one of the best pieces of yours I have read! Wonderful images that reach right out and touch you.

living in the Pacific Northwest, i've seen all kinds of rain and have yet to grow tired of it. i was born near the ocean, i suppose i have a water connection and probably will until i die...i'm drawn to it. and i am equally drawn to your poem. beautiful.

As yet another web-footed Oregonian, I may wail about the rain but would be devastated without it. What a lovely piece, as I read, my senses expand... rainwater renews life, slowly but surely an arbor blooms. Love it, Mary Ann Smile

The rain is depressing at times and utterly symphonic at other times. I think it depends on the situation, to be honest. This poem had a dark flavor, I think, but I don't "detest" rain on the whole. What I detest about rain is the common symbolism embedded.

Thank you very much. I haven't been feeling inspired lately, when it comes to writing poetry. Hopefully, I'll write something like my Wind Trilogy. I think that style suits me. Now what sort of philosophy have you been into lately?

Thank you much! This is what rain is to me. I don't think it's every completely "dark" or "tranquil" two different factors of rain.
