poison leaf

Enamelled barricade to light
Where beneath no shrub can grow
The laurel stands resplendent
Through the sun, the ice and snow

It shimmers in the morning
Casts its gloom amidst the night
From it an emperor’s crown was made
Though wisdom grew no sight

So now I sit and gaze in awe
At this giant garden wreath
And smell it sweetest scent again
But respect it’s poison leaves

Nice flowing poem Wayne. I'm not familiar with the plant, but is it what we call poison ivy.
