I think I'd call him "Scrapper"

I think I'd call him"Scrapper"

he stands by his cuestick like a lord
beedy eyes under his bushy brows
deeply penetrating like a sword
crafted like old ship figurine prows

a new man hankered to play a game
some SOB who thought he could win
and if looks could curse and cut and maim
the new man should go back to his gin

each time I passed that riveting place
while walking Duchess around the town
I'd study that strong and angry face-
I'd take it home if the price came down

I could recognize that angry face
from its twin that lived inside of me
I wanted both of them in one place
so I could enjoy their company

for five years I would stop and ponder
and feel kinship with a piece of wood
but kinship grew less and less fonder
the price didn't change and that was good

I have lost my brother of the wood
I look at him-he's just a dummy
Glad I didn't buy him if I could
he's not the same-he's not so chummy
