Poems - Easter Pebbles, A Pujatale by Tasha
| | Easter Pebbles, A Pujatale by Tashaby Pujakins
Horace was an Easter Bunny
who didn't have any eggs for Easter.
No one had any to spare,
and he had no money to buy them at the store.
He was a very young bunny,
and this was his first Easter.
"Oh, dear, oh, dear," he said, “What shall I do?"
He sat by himself under a forsythia bush and cried.
A ladybug flew up to him.
She said, "Why are you so sad?"
"Because I have no eggs for Easter," he wept.
"Why do you need eggs?” the ladybug asked.
"Because I'm an Easter Bunny.
"Easter Bunnies are supposed to bring eggs
"to children on Easter," he said, wiping his eyes.
"Well," said the ladybug,
"If you don't have any eggs,
"why don't you find something else to bring?"
"I never thought of that," Horace said,
"Maybe I could bring something else.
"But what?" "Flowers?" said the ladybug
"I'll help you, and so will all my family.
"We'll pick them for you."
“That would be wonderful,” he said,
"But where will we get them?
"They haven't started to bloom yet, except on bushes."
"That's true, I hadn't thought of that.
"Wait a minute, what about pretty pebbles?"
"Do you think that would work?” Horace asked.
“I never heard of Easter pebbles."
"Well, just because you never heard of it,
"doesn't mean it can't be done,” said the ladybug.
"Come on, I'll help you find some."
Together the ladybug and the bunny
searched for the Easter pebbles.
Only smooth, rounded pretty ones would do.
Soon they had collected a whole basketful.
"Well, they're not eggs but they're something," the bunny said.
He felt a little better.
Just then a snake came along with a pebble in its mouth.
“Where are you going?” Horace asked.
“I'm carrying this stone to my home
"to line the passageway and make it smooth,” said the snake.
"But I wish I had more.
"It takes me a long time to gather enough."
"I've got a whole basket of Easter pebbles," the bunny said,
"Would you like them?"
"Oh, that would be wonderful," the snake said.
"Why don't you come to dinner tomorrow and bring them?
"You come too,” he said to the ladybug.
He started to slither away.
“I live at the third oak tree on Bridle Lane.
"See you tomorrow at two.
"I must hurry home to tell Mrs. Snake the good news."
Before Horace or Ladybug could reply, he was out of sight.
"There, you see now?" the ladybug said with a smile.
"Easter pebbles do come in handy."
Just then an Easter fairy came along. "Oh, there you are!
"I've been looking all over for you.
"We have some eggs for you to deliver.
"Come along now," she said with a big smile.
"I'll keep an eye on the basket for you," the ladybug said,
"And tomorrow we'll go to the snake's house."
"Alright,” Bunny said happily. He looked at the fairy.
"You mean I don't have to get the eggs myself?" he asked.
"No, no, you just deliver, we do the eggs," the Easter fairy said.
"Come on, I'll give you a lift." She picked him up and away they flew.
"Oh, happy me," Horace said. "Oh, happy me!"
