A wonderful and refreshing read Rory, Sunsets and water's edge, always go together. Sadly the winter is upon us so the children best enjoy it while they can. Cheers my friend dAVE

I'm glad somebody picked up on that. It wasn't accidental. The reference to shallow waters isn't accidental either! Thanks Tige.

Oh how I can relate to this for when I was a lad I used to go down to my village stream to savor the peaceful serene it provides. I'd watch her purity sublime beauty, praying my soul a pristine fate as the streams. Its one thing I miss so much now especially when I'd been urbanized but your piece Rory brought before that picture. Thanks

And I thank you, Ossy, for the kind comment and especially for the lovely words you used to describe your past. Why don't you write something on that theme? I could really foresee an excellent poem coming from you.

A vivid image. Expertly penned.

I am intrigued by the plural of "sun"..it individualizes the children, suggesting that each experience is unique, and yet it speaks to something universal as well. It reminds me of the philosophical idea of analogy of being.

Thanks Hugh. It's interesting how readers can find things in poems that the poet had not thought of! I was thinking of how each human being can be said to have a sun (an ideal or guiding light) of one kind or another, and the poem is really analogical - like children, we play around in shallow lives while our "suns" are rapidly reaching their ends.

It could also be read to suggest many worlds and many children in a very large universe. I like that the poem does not unravel the meaning for the reader, and that it invites thought. Sorry for intruding! I came back to this poem again because it is fascinating.
