Stupidity As a Solvent

by FuchsiaFestival!

Sonatas don't always last.
Solos reinforced will
collapse, melodies
stepped on, no more song.

Ignorance,
it's a solvent already sifting
through the radio stations,
to sit and dissolve into
sound.

Thanks. It's about the loss of song.

Good piece of writing Sammi, and you deserve a lot of credit for being able to rise above the usual way of blindly following the tastes of your own generation.

Thank you. I do enjoy techno, but a lot of music of today's day and age seems utterly unimportant to me. It's not a feeling of coldness, although, a lot of it is.

Many songs work as subliminal marketing products used to market today's media over and over. It's just what I feel. I get a strange feeling listening to many radio hits, because half of them seem contrived.

I like some pop--like synthpop. I guess I don't like a lot of Katy Perry songs. Thanks, and yes, bad music (whatever genre) is a solvent, a bad one. (the innerworkings of stupidity)

Sammi - I agree with Ozy! Although they say every generation mourns the loss of their own music - I don't agree with that statement. My own generation of music still has many songs considered classics today and the generation before mine was the same way. A LOT of the "sound" that passes for music today, I'm certain many would disagree, however I feel for the most part it is not noteworthy. While I am not saying there is no talent today, there seems to be so much music that is contrived and thrown together with bits and pieces of phases and melodies from other generations. Almost as though they can't really think for themselves, but must "borrow" from the past. Your poem is very significant and relevant.

Yup, I've noticed that. Let's be honest here, there are a variety of songs up-to-date that I like for "borrowing those melodies", which in this case is sampling, but many of the hits that do borrow these past melodies from older songs, etc, seem very irrelevant.

Just all too easy to tag along, drifting on the surface... who will take the helm when the time comes? No easy solution (or button) in sight.
Really well said, Mary Ann

Yes I agree. The stuff coming out pf the radio nowadays sucks....well as with everything there are a few things I would still call songs. Nice write.

i guess a "song" is really just a piece of music, but there are two parts: good music and bad music. In my opinion, the songs that feel "contrived" have lost meaning and were pieces reserved for negativity (what really isn't a precious sentiment). Ugh.
