The Inheritance

Full fathom five thy longed-for father lies
Killed for the keys he had to secret doors.
Dive deep, dear boy, and open up your eyes.

The rumor said one opened Paradise.
His key-ring jangled like a janitor's.
Full fathom five thy longed-for father lies.

The seawaves crash their seltzer, mute your cries,
And wash the bones of Icarus to shore.
Dive deep, dear boy, and open up your eyes.

A man who holds so staggering a prize
Will never long elude his predators.
Full fathom five thy longed-for father lies.

To seek it too is neither safe nor wise
But, lonely child, it's what he made you for.
Dive deep, dear boy, and open up your eyes.

The took his keys and took him by surprise,
But one went with him to the ocean floor.
Dive deep, dear boy, and open up your eyes.

Go down into the deep, retrieve it, rise,
And all his boasts and burdens will be yours.
