A Negative Critique

What’s this infection in the poem stores?
Page upon page of prosy blog galore
No social conscience, no rhyme or meter
Just bland rants that bore the poem reader

Can’t stand this lazy slow minded spew
Trite writers doing what dim wits do
Linguistic eloquence is lost in the thrall
The quality of poetry has taken a fall

What is their thinking? Is intelligence shrinking?
Poems loaded with emotion but the premise is missing
Half of it is less than shit just word and thought pissing
And sycophantic comments from their buddies ass kissing

Come on folks dig deep and work a little harder
You’re going to cause the heart attack of an old bard here
Pick a cause, find some rhymes and show a hint of flow
Go places with your words others are too afraid to go

You can blog on “facebook” or tweet your heart’s content
“My space” wants to hear your rambling rants and vents
But poetry takes some effort it’s not just thoughts and notions
It is linguistic specific and if you want to be terrific show some devotion

Oh boy - that's the ticket "dig deep and work harder" sounds like a great poetic challenge to one and all! I totally agree we're supposed to be able to top Facebook and Twitter... good grief, we're all poets here!

yeah, I have to agree with you that it does get frustrating to click on a new poem only to find a rant or rave that is more of a blog than a poem. I have even told some this should go under your blog.

G'day Ronald...
I shouldn't say this but you wrote my thoughts...I will have a go at upping my standard also. You're poem certainly tweaks the mind as poetry is an art that requires thought and not just a rant of a jumble of words. A good poem is when readers can relate to it.
