Sonora

by fogglethorpe

The cloud is growing
The dust is hiding the noon
I see it blowing

Sonora

No starlings flying
Coyotes lurk in the dunes
I hear them crying

Sonora

And I love the rain
'Cause it doesn't always come
And we wait in vain
'Til the posturing is done
And we see the same old sun

Sonora

The lightning's flashing
The thunder enters my room
I feel it crashing

Sonora

The palms are swaying
The leaves are playing their tune
I guess we're staying

Sonora

And I love the rain
'Cause it never lasts for long
And I can't explain
I don't miss it when it's gone
For a near eternal dawn

And I love the rain
'Cause it doesn't always come
And we wait in vain
'Til the posturing is done
And we see the same old sun

Sonora

Thank you for this fine sharing, Hugh, I am impressed by the way the poem gathers force as it goes, and I appreciate the originality of the images as well. Excellent work. Warm Wishes, Tasha

Hi Tasha..thank you. I was thinking of a monsoon storm when I wrote this, so your comment is perfect.

Ah, so expressive of blustery displays that affect the senses yet pass by quickly. Old Sonora, a much slower pace - but I suppose it, too has changed... although I hope not too much! Sonora, lovely lyrics Hugh. Cheers, Mary Ann

Hi Mary Ann..Summer is coming here in the Sonoran Desert, and I am bracing for it. The monsoon will arrive around late June or early July..its contradictions always intrigue me. It's good to see you..-H

Chris..in June it will be in the 90s already by that time. You may want that coffee iced, my friend. But I loved your comment anyway. Best..-H

dear Hugh, I agree wholeheartedly with Chris' comment - these warm and windy words made me feel like doing the same thing - and, by the way, I LOVE iced coffee! Smile
