Descente aux Enfers

by Pierre

Elle vit deux démons, noirs, comme des corbeaux,
Dans un ciel bien trop clair, fondant sur leurs victimes ;
Gouffres incandescents pour d’angoisses ultimes,
Double Babel d’acier transmuée en tombeaux !
La douleur a semé des haines légitimes.

Eurydice, explosée, aux Enfers va descendre
Pour vivre sa folie en d’intimes frayeurs ;
Quand sur son socle d’Or, Liberté tombe en pleurs !
L’Homme revient poussière et l’Avenir est cendre.

Dans un Ciel bien trop clair, Ô combien de victimes !

---
Descent into Hell

She saw two devils, black as crows
In a sky too clear, pouncing on their victims ;
Incandescent chasms for anguishes of ultimate,
Double steel Babel transmuted into tombs !
Grief has sown hatred legitimate.

Eurydice, exploded, goes down to the Underworld
To live her madness like intimate fears;
When Liberty falls in tears on her golden pedestal,
Men return to dust and Future is ashes.

In a sky too clear... How many victims !

Ok, "Rimbaudelaire"...You took me over the top on this one. But it's powerful, mythic, and so good! Love both the French and the English translations. The poem feels extracted from a top-notch libretto. Keep it up, and I'll be looking for your work.

    Hi Kirian,
    Thank's for your comment. Sorry but there is no "top-notch libretto", just a little blog. If you want, you can read some of my poems (in French) on http://nemosland.blogspot.com. All others are in my drawer.
    Best.
