Mrs T. (from 1995).

by royst

Mrs T believed
She worked while others thieved
Falkland widows grieved
War pensions they received.
In ’69, she moved on through the ranks
PM is ’79, and sending in them tanks
She put Britain on the map
Some promotion from the Lab
Balancing the books and getting tougher with the crooks.
She cut taxes, promoted home ownership
The Labour party didn't half flip
Council homes up for sale?
She sold off gas and British steel.
She fought the thugs in Brixton town
She had the balls and took the crown
The Falkland’s and a sea of flags
Support from the rich and those in rags.
The economy soared, she fought Jacques Delors
And she broke the unions with union laws
But,
Europe hit back and she got the sack
Leaving office before the recession set in
She sent troops to the gulf
She called Saddam’s bluff
In the heat our soldiers boil
All for the sake of a few barrels of oil.
Boom back to bust
The grass roots lost their trust
When homes were repossessed
No one was impressed
Some of her supporters later confessed
Perhaps we got it wrong …
But for a time we had achieved, what a lot of us believed
Britain could still impress.
“Mrs T” got some of it right
I admire her a bit, she knew when to fight
Terrorising the opposition, no compromise
Not accepting excuses, failings or lies
Sackings were common and no one denies
That when it came to her own
She wasn’t afraid of goodbyes.
