consider ways to be a friend
the many ways that you can bend

bending an ear when she is near
listen to every word you hear
deepen her joy and wipe her tear
make a friend with the ear you lend

travel with her the second mile
tell her how much you like her style
do it her way once in a while
with all your heart and don't pretend

give her a break and let her rest
do the dishes, iron her dress
when you feel like no, tell her yes
take your ramrod, give it a bend

agree to take her to the flicks
to see a movie meant for chicks
be sure it's you who buys the ticks
no matter how much else you spend

be nice to her family and friends
their many moods and different blends
no matter who or what offends
by that they'll know that you're a friend

then she will be a friend to you
and though it may be hard to do
accept the other foot and shoe
for that's the way to be a friend
