Knowing Where I Stand

by liarbird

So she wanted the bloody lawn mowed,
Before it had started to rain,
But the footy is there on the telly,
So I put off the mowing again.
Then the house became suddenly silent
and a cool frost has invaded the air,
At least I can watch football in peace…
It’s like there’s nobody else with me there.

And when the game was over and won
I dragged myself up off the couch
To do the right thing by mowing the lawn
but can’t ‘cause it’s raining…oh ouch!
And so sheepishly back to the telly
I plonked myself down onto a seat
and I waited for my evening meal
that my wife was preparing, to eat.

And still I felt the silent treatment,
I know that it would have been pain,
But I realise the mistake that I made
I should have mowed out in the rain
Then I thought I must have been mistaken
for her sweet voice brought on relief
“What would you like for dinner, sweetie,
chicken, lamb or some succulent beef?"

So I sniffed and I took a deep breath
with a feeling the world is now right
And I shouted from the lounge room,
“I wouldn’t mind chicken tonight.”
But once again frost filled the air,
“Is that right you damn useless rat
but you’re having soup and stale bread
as it happened I spoke to the cat.”

Great anecdote!
Still can't crack the mystery of why such thngs are a big deal to some women. Nevertheless, they are usually right.

Cheers.

Beautiful stuff!

"...So she wanted the bloody lawn mowed..."

...and I'm off with you, through a Saturday morning, good rhythme, lovely words, and suddenly my perspective shifts, and the cat! The cat!

Wonderful!
