The Lake Erie Storm Hag

by wolfinwindow

"Come into the water, love,
Dance beneath the waves
Where dwells the bones of sailor lads
Inside my saffron caves." (anon)

The storm hag raged once she lured.
Lifted the water, tossed the sea
and threw sailors like rag dolls
of all who ventured the Lake Erie.

Her yellow, evil, cat like eyes
peered out from light green skin.
Her taloned fingers released paralyzing poison
while she tore her victims limb from limb

"Come into the water, love,
Dance beneath the waves
Where dwells the bones of sailor lads
Inside my saffron caves."

She tempted them softly, then caused a storm
to make her plunder more terrified.
Her pale green arms were very long.
Of her sharp, shark like teeth, they were petrified.

She was wild and she was wicked
and she dwelled beneath the lake
ravaging and pillaging
the ships that she could take.

"Come into the water, love,
Dance beneath the waves
Where dwells the bones of sailor lads
Inside mu saffron caves."

Vengeful, spiteful, nasty and mean,
she raised Lake Erie to gale force winds.
The ships crews were knocked all around
praying they had no sins.

But nothing helped with the storm hag.
The waves splashed high, throwing them in the lake.
Presque Isle was hers to torment
and she took advantage of the wake.

"Come into the water, love,
Dance beneath the waves
Where dwells the bones of sailor lads
Inside my saffron caves."

Her hunger satisfied, she calmed the winds
leaving those who told her tale.
They handed down the fear of the siren
with the cat like eyes and green skin so pale.

At the bottom of the lake the demon woman lives
in wait for her next unwary men
to drag them down into her lair
where they'll never be seen again.

There's lots of mythical stories all around the world about water creatures and monster that lure humans. My Irish grandmother use to tell me about Kelpies. They manifest as horses on the loch and lake sides. and trick you into riding them, and then you can't get off and they dive into the water and drown you. Even to this day I'm still cautious if I see a horse by a lake lol. Nice scary write Linda. Enjoyed.

Thanks Wayne, And you didn't even get to read all of it. My puter
bit the dust after the first couple stanzas. You should write a poem about those horses. It could prove to be a very interesting piece. Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy

G'day Linda...
Large bodies of water do have a habit of testing the skills of sailors and I dare say they are well in tune with an evil siren like the 'hag of Lake Erie' who wants to lure them to their death in her environment.
Thank you Linda
