A Daughter

by butterflyzrfree

that girl was my daughter
she still is, but
mind is in a place so far away.
cannot
see what she sees,
nor hear what she hears
or know that
about which she is smiling
and humming a tune, and
mentioning a boy's name

She telephones me weeping
about how she wishes
to return home.
about once a week,
the weeping,
the wailing for momma!
She is not here
and her mind is far away.

This is my daughter
I love her so,
Maybe someday soon,
She can return.

G'day Gail...
Well done gail. I'm sure your poem will touch many a parent here. The generation gap is so wide these days.
Thank you Gail

Its not the generation this time Lindsay, this one is particular is mentally ill, and has an addiction problem which I knew but am allowing her to stay here for a few days. Events related to these problems are the reason sheis no longer in the house. Ihope there is improvement and a happier life in the small town in New Mexico where she lives.

Oh Gail - a 10 and a heart for this beautiful, meaningful piece.

I can relate SO MUCH to this - the distance, the not knowing, and yet that unbreakable bond is still strong - for in the end, it's always Mama that she calls. Love this!!!!

Thanks, Paul! Here it is more a question of what she wants to be, about which she has no idea, but I am positive that, although she would very much like to be rich, fhe must figure THAT part out, and the secrets to grabbing a man...
1.) love weight--she had so far lont thirty lbs. and going for another thirty. Much better environment and place to be for that.
2.) behavior. must learn how to relate properly to girls and not have only guy friends at ths age All friends must be of that certain middle class 'cut' for right now. For at least six months to a year.
3.) That feeling one has, of self-assurance, that you are ok just the way you are and don't need whatever to meet standards. This is extrememly difficult to do at that age!
Never meet guys at bars and take them home!
That is asking a lot. It is all necessary. Now that I laid it out, I understand why it is so hard to be a teen! She is simply not shallow enough, for starters!!!!!

I wonder the same about mine who is coming home next weekend from school. Uggh! It's so hard knowing that I am not part of everything that goes on in her life anymore...makes me sad sometimes.

Thanks for the poem!

Upasaka: I love what you shared and it hit something inside there, I can't worry too much as she is in a save place, has a job and some money in the band! And an old care he gave her. She is living with her dad, and not a boyfriend, (thank god)

I read, re read, and read yet again. The lyrics to Sweet Child Of Mine played in my head. As a parent you never stop thinking about where your child's thoughts are.... never. The poem rings truth.
