Malay on the Highway

by rondo

Malay on the Highway

Little jackrabbit made the wrong choice
Deciding he should run past
Overly confident in his direction and speed
And got his fuzzy rump smashed

A carrion breakfast for coyote or crow
Splatters and messes on the highways and roads

Sidewinder makes a run and nearly gets across
Its memory meets with mixed emotion as I contemplate its loss
As rodents streak the streets
It’s clear to see what brought out the snakes

The locust and moth
That are low and aloft
Splatter the windshield and grille
And meet the demise
Of all that flies
In the path of a vehicle will

Crimson speckled windshield and fur embedded tires
Feathers in the ladder rack from birds that don’t fly higher
Corpses coat the hood and bumper
From a baby deer that looked like Bambi
To a lot of little thumpers

A four wheeled critter grim reaper
Harvest the roadway slow
And the highway sleepers

..and that's because their natural environment is fast disappearing, and who is to blame for that??.....Phoebe

“Tiger got to hunt, bird got to fly;
Man got to sit and wonder 'why, why, why?'
Tiger got to sleep, bird got to land;
Man got to tell himself he understand.”

G'day Ronald...
An all too common site around the world Ronald. Kangaroos and Emus are targets down here, but when you see a see a carcass you also see a $500 dollar debt for a car owner. It's a no win situation sadly.
Thanks Ronald
