Hell in a Hand Basket

by rondo

Hell in a Hand Basket

In youth I swore I’d never be
Like the old and crotchety
Angry at life’s every turn
With a lot to disdain and much to spurn

I remember thinking they must be miserable
With consuming hate and protest immeasurable
Any change met their ire
All was nuisance that transpired

“Hell in a hand basket” was where the world was headed
Any new or changing thing was something elders dreaded
If it was good enough for pawpaw chances are it was simple
When stern and resolute was replaced with pliable and nimble

But some grow rigidly bitter
And become a world quitter
Then bitch about its twist and turns
And for the old days long and yearn

Resisting change does not bode well for a world in fast advance
So much could be improved upon if given half the chance

G'day Ronald...
I recall an old bloke saying to me once, and I quote, 'there's only one good thing about the good old days...they're gone!'
You're spot on about change being rapid these days and it does take some time to adjust.
Thank you Ronald
Lindsay

What a crazily delicious title, but sometimes when I see the struggles of some of the youth of today and how my elders smoothed the way for me by instilling some basic life values it saddens as well as gladdens me. Intergenerational change is inevitable, most are never prepared for it - a very thought provoking write my buddy..xoxoxo
