a good egg

a good egg

be a good egg they say
I wonder what they mean,
help me begin my day
or like a jelly bean?

some are over easy
and break over your toast
but could make you queasy-
a salmonella host

you could scramble your eggs
with white and yellow mixed
and maybe shells and dregs
depending how they're fixed

your egg could have a fall
and just go down the tube
if it slips from your wall
and exits through the pube

whether soft or hard boiled
you'll be a life giver
if after you have toiled
you gladly deliver

better an Easter egg
a gift that keeps giving
to those who ail or beg
or need your forgiving
