a party for two

hey, little boy in blue
in your bib and tucker
looks like your clothes are new
dressed up for your supper

you can't be more than three
and your mother, sixteen
you sit proud as can be
a picture to be seen

Mom's camera flashes
as you give a big smile
with open eyelashes
wearing your crown with style

it's a BK party
a party just for two
so eat and drink hearty
I celebrate with you

with you in sad silence
not knowing what to do
but with feelings immense
for I have been there too

a party with no friends
a party with no Dad
a small table that sends
a message that is sad

what did your Mom do wrong
to make your life narrow?
but you can see she's strong-
iron in her marrow

she'll give you all she can
to make a life for you
and you'll grow a good man
there's nothing you can't do
