A Cup of Coffee

A Cup of Coffee

I am worn as I great the morning with a cup of coffee.
I always believed in the stories that I would be grown.
Stories locked up in the memories of a child.
‘Do not do that child, that is not the grownup way.’
Yet as I got older the more confused it seemed.
That child is not a far cry from the grownup sipping coffee.
Because now I am grown and it seems that I am always wrong.
So as I sip the last drop of coffee from a cup.
In my mind I sing a mournful aubade parting the young from the grown.

Beautiful poem. I'm more
into mocha latte than plain,
hot coffee. To me, a mocha latte
has that richness to enjoy and think
something creative. But anyway, I really
enjoying your poem. It has a message
of "Don't grow up too fast." Smile
