Poems - That old boy Joe
| | That old boy Joeby Essex68
That old boy Joe’s, done it all you know
He tried to tell me he’d sold the Arabs snow
“Ah that aint nothing”- he constantly remarks
He’s been to the North Pole and built Noah’s ark
Sailed the ocean in raft made of lead
Spent a long weekend in Ursula Andress’s bed
Jumped out of a plane with no parachute
And walked bare foot to Timbuktu
If you’ve climb Everest, he planted the flag
As a prisoner of war been to every stalag
He’s got a pet alligator, and a toucan too
At the crossroads he taught Johnson how to play blues
He was a roadie for Zeppelin, and he knew JFK
He was in the front car when they blew him away
If you done it once, his done it twice
If you done it twice, his done it thrice
He’s sparred with Ali, took Sinatra to lunch
Even tried to tell us Bruce Lee was his son
Told Navy seals where Bin Laden was hiding
But we haven’t the heart to say that he’s lying
Played golf with Bing Crosby, and Tiger too
Even tried to convince us he owned London Zoo
Said he wrote a best seller, under a secret name
And he’s had it away with Faye Dunaway
Jumped more buses than Evel knieval
Built the dome on St Pauls Cathedral
Cooked his wife a Sunday roast
“Come on now Joe, there’s no need to boast”
We some times try to catch him out
But that old codgers been about
Though I must say he’s good as gold
I suppose some get like that when they are old

Oh yes, most of us do. Joe is fictional but he is based on a real person I know

Usually I am not into such structured poetry, but your words flowed, and it was if I was flowing with them too. Congratulations on an outstanding poem.
Tell Joe I said, "Hello."

being a comic verse writer, i enjoyed this. one or two lines either need some packing or chopping
to enhance the flow but, otherwise, pukka! i'm an essex boy (manningtree) and a big zep fan!
thanks for sharing.

Ah Manningtree, know it very well, a local at last lol. Yes I know what you mean there is a little straining in a couple of spots.. But it's one of those pieces I would rather recite aloud if you know what I mean?
