Poems - My Old Guitar

My Old Guitar

My old guitar gathers dust
in the corner all alone
crippled fingers hit only sour notes
on strings too long out of tune.
The music has been silenced
chords lay broken on the floor
the flats and sharps are tangled
in tempos out of beat.
My fingers still remember
how they lovingly caressed the strings
but they are only hallow memories
of days now too long gone.
Soon like my old guitar
I will gather only dust
maybe then my old guitar will find
someone new to make it sing.

This is so be about things that were so lovingly a strong part of one's life experiences through the years, tinged with a little melancholy... I just love it Bonnie... Smile

Very touching and beautiful poem. It shows the sadness of your loss of being able to play due to your arthritis. It made me sad.

A sad and poignant write. I also have an old guitar that has gathered dust - I recently gave it to my nephew. I can only play simple tunes. Well written. Julian
