Fool’s Gold

I held out for hope against all hope.
Yet reality comes along and torches both.
Like reality the wind saunters in.
She blows the ashes upwards toward the sky, and downwards toward the depths.
I ran from North to South; from East to West.
Though while running, always looking toward the sky for falling ash.
I was always searching for those elusive flakes of hope against all hope.
Though once I quit running I looked in the mirror and found an ass.
You see, you can never hope against all hope.
All you can do is just hope.
