An exercise in damage limitation.

When you’re in public office
You can manipulate the press
Image of oneself is important
Be careful on how you dress,
And watching every word you say
Keeping to the script
Sleaze and scandal exposes all
Political wings may be clipped.
When the story has been set in motion
The spin doctors are on the move,
Feed the press a potion
Of facts, names, half truths
Don’t forget denial
And the letters that have leaked
Men of power shouldn’t have a past
Defending your actions to the very last -
Moment before being heavily exposed
A political career over, the door now closed.
Rumours, desertion and self-incrimination
Front page news and tabloid speculation
Defending your job against character assassination,
All part of an exercise in damage limitation.
