There used to be.

There used to be
A sense of well being
Where policemen were feared
Now they are fleeing
From thugs on street corners
Are we a nation of mourners.
There used to be
Respect for your elders
Manners and morals
Seem not to exist today
A country of great engineers, welders
And shipbuilding,
The railways were meant to stay.
Having lost direction
Have we a role
On the world stage
Have we a goal
This country is a bit like the England team
Winning the world cup, just another dream.
There used to be
Leadership
Choice for the voter
A sense of direction,
But now the parties are all the same
‘Mrs T’ shows Mr Blair affection.
