A poem about the slave trade. Part 1.

Black slaves fear their owners whip
And the torment of the slave ship
Stays with them …
Whilst sweeping, the yard, brush gripped tightly
Wishing it was her masters neck.

“fetch this, do that, scrub my back”
Forced to sleep in a dirty shack
On a bare floor
On a bed of straw
“we have no rights at all”.

The same cotton rags
Made from potato sacks
The food she eats, lacks, taste, nourishment
The same water and bread, half starved, worked hard
Her soul is dead.

Dreaming of a promised land
And fearing her masters hand
She’s sick of sweeping straw and sand
Her wretched life,
In a brutal land.

This cuts deep into America's flaws. Definately a favorite.
