flaming lips ( rock n' roll poem 4 )

by omegapaf

" i'm a man, not a boy and there are things you have to face, when you're not prepared to face them.......i don't know where the sunbeams end " - fight test - the flaming lips.

the only band i know from oklahoma
the flaming lips. master musicians and a stoner

the way that punk should have been
rarely played, but often seen

yoshimi fought the pink robots
and you wont let those evil robots eat me
we wont let those robots win

i thought i recognized your face among all those strangers
with an odd reference to the stranglers
do you realize that you have the most beautiful face
do you realize that we are floating in space.

" what is love and what is hate....and why does it matter " - in the morning of the magicians - the flaming lips.

you've heard the flaming lips? i thought i was the only person left that listened to them. try the songs " suddenly everything has changed ", " this here giraffe ", " talking about the smiling death porn immortality blues ", and " kim's watermelon gun ".
they do a lot of songs about the sun. they sortta remind me of " the doors ". oh, and you must listen to " gingerale afternoon ".
-" i'm feeling like i'm leaving much too soon " - paul and slobbery hound lips.

It's cool that you're like the flaming lips. I enjoy many of their songs, because they blend rock with other elements. I love their song "Yoshimi" the second version. Good poem.

have you heard the albums " clouds taste metallic ", " the soft bulletin" , and the sublime " hit to death in the future head "? - paul and the lippy hound.

I've heard certain songs from them. They are very good. They have a lot of hidden meanings in their songs. Yoshimi is about the process of defeating cancer, from what I know, and the album itself is a concept album.

exactly. none of their songs are what they appear to be about on the surface. like " a spoonful weighs a ton " and " evil will prevail ". there are many layers underneath. i do like music that i don't understand the first few times i hear it. then go " ahhhh, i get it now ".
" being drunk on their plan, they lifted up the sun ".

I think I know a ton of people who would take "beneath the surface" music literally. Their music is certainly tangible.

thanks michelle. i already did the clash in my poem " clashed ". i'd do the rolling stones next, but it's too easy to quote stones lyrics, as nearly all of them are quotable. i might do one about paul simon and call it " graceland ". i'd do a rock n' roll poem about early iron maiden, but it might be a bit noisey ha ha - paul and the rock hound.

i couldn't help myself hugh. the flaming lips are so quotable. the soft bulletin is a superb album. i love " feeling yourself disintegrate " and that line from " the gash " that goes " will the fight for our sanity, be the fight for our lives ". but my fav is " suddenly everything has changed " fantastic bass guitar line. in my rock n' roll series i mostly use the bands own lyrics. just chopped up and rearranged. mainly because i don't think i can say anything better about the band, than what they sing themselves. i leave what the band means to me for answering comments from people who are interested in the band.

they aren't a very well known band. they are just too weird and intelligent for the average commercial radio listener. and record shops don't know what section to put their albums in, because each album is completely different.
