Burnout

Burnout

What happens when I do not want to be me?
Emblazoned upon me are my deep rooted insecurities
They are not medals so I do not wear them with any type of pride

That is why I wished that I was locked up inside
Inside where no-one can talk to me; where no one could see
Me falling down like leaves from a tree

I have been through all the so called “mental health routes.”
Whether the route I traveled was A.A, taking anti-depressants, or counseling;
I compare it to ring –around-the-rosies, in the end I will just fall down

So here is my state of perdition
One shell is completely hollow with the winds howling through
The other shell filled with an unguarded vulnerable ego, how impaired

I’m living two lives; some probably called me Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde
Yet what can I do I have nowhere else to hide
I know my days are numbered; I am forty-five

I cannot please everyone let alone me
Mentally and emotionally I am drained
I could leave and not look behind, but deep down inside I want to know why.
