Poems - Moonlight On Black Water

Moonlight On Black Water

Beneath the moonlight on black water
a solitary figure stands
the stars glisten with contempt
at the object in his hands.

Wrapped up in blue ribbons
in box of silver and gold
all his fears and sorrows
are sealed in the box he holds.

The box he cannot release
in his fist he grips it tight
the ribbons wrinkle in his grasp
the stars laugh in the night.

The river calls out to him
it will wash the box away
in it’s wild rapids flow
to help him see the light of day.

Tears fall softly down his face
as into the river he does go
the box still tightly in his hand
he’s lost in the rivers flow.

The found his body on the bank
of the river cold and cruel
opened up the tattered box
to find a ring with sparkling jewel.
