On The Radio

I found you in a glass of wine
highlights of gold and red
your song played on the radio
as you took me to your bed.

You whispered secrets in my ear
made love abandoned and wild
I pretended not to hear
when you cried just like a child.

You wrote a song on an envelope
you found lying on the floor
made us both a cup of tea
then sent me out the door.

I walked around in a daze
wondered what the whole thing meant
then went to sleep in my own bed
physically and emotionally spent.

Woke up thinking you were there
but it was just the radio
your song played in the air
you sang you had to go.

The words were both sad and sweet
as you sang of moving on
I knew we’d never meet again
and slept again ‘til dawn.
