Lonely Drummer Part IV

He awakened in an alley way
His drum lay by his side
Once again he played on
Marched the streets with pride.

The warriors on the battle fields
Put his lonely beat to words
Understood the wrong they’d done
Laid down their guns and swords.

The politicians screamed in rage
With this war we are not done
But the warriors said no more
We’ll not lose another son.

The drummer reached the battlefield
The soldiers followed as they wept
Over all the lives that had been lost
While their consciences slept.

He led them all to freedom
Set their souls and spirits free
Find your peace within yourselves
You need not follow me.

He picked up his worn drum
To the politicians he did play
They did not want to hear
Each one turned away.

He continued to play his best
Through his sorrow and his tears
Vowed to keep on playing
Until every politician hears.

Beautiful... really love this one. On a personal note: it also reminds me of why I joined a group called Iraq Veterans Against the War and why we're still working together for peace. Very well done, Mary Ann
