A short poem about our times.

Watching the shadows and binding our time
The future is not yours or mine
It belongs to the boardroom and the executives, who share
The profits of what is to become our waking nightmare.
Privatised placemen, I.D cards all the rage
No qualifications?
Don’t expect a half decent wage
Nothing done about poverty
Not in a month of May,
Only talk about 'crime'
And 'performance related pay'.
Watching the politicians like pigs in a trough
Building careers
Scoffing at others
A divided nation is approaching
Look at the signs
One of the ways of telling is the shocking crimes.
Boys as young as 10 in gaol for killing
What do the middle classes care?
They don’t give a shilling,
It’s so far away from their cosy suburbs
Two cars in the drive
Their potions and herbs
Their trips to the theatre
Daily Mail on the table
They’ll lose out too when society becomes more unstable.
Watching the shadows and binding your time
No go areas in inner cities seem to be fine
Unemployed youngsters turning to crime
And sport brand advertisers brainwashing their mind.
Quangos?
Who knows why these exist
A serious point someone has missed,
Shareholders, stakeholders, red tape, broad shoulders
Not knowing the free from the signed up foot soldiers.
