Outside

by ouabain

You’ll put your hands back in your pockets,
And crumple up receipts for comfort.
Slowly looking through the inane,
Scratch in a stained notebook, grinning.
Because you’re outside.

You’ll come to realise, in good time,
You've been carefully modified.
You’re breathing real air and nobody,
Is flick, flick, flicking switches.
Kicking dust and grinning at you.

You’ll grab hold of the hand-rail,
As you calmly behold.
Life, just as it is, it’s palatable,
And warm to the touch, unlike the frame.
Of a bed you woke in for so very long, inside.
