Dead and dying wood is winter
Captured in brilliant white
Rugby goal posts like markers
In the back drop
Shining in brilliant white
Brown leaves carpet
And swirl around the market
Fungi spores and stag beetles hide
Trent gulls swoop like dive bombers
Attacking geese from behind.
Dead and dying wood is winter
God forgive the bitter cold nights
Frosty paths and freezing fog
Although any snow will bring delight
I do wish it would snow more in winter
Although it increasingly never does
Perhaps it’s due to global warming
Please leave your cars and catch a bus.
