Poems - Lovers Moon

Lovers Moon

The calliope plays as the carousel goes around
com see the sideshows with features to astound
the barker calls out to him to come play his game
I'll guess your height and weight, I'll even guess your name.
But to him it's just hollow memories of long ago
the whispers of young love on the ferris wheel
mock the lonely sadness of the way he does feel.
Once upon a time he grabbed the golden ring
full of all the promise tomorrows would bring.
Now he just lives in his mind deep within the past
love like anything else never seems to last.
He listens to the calliope as it plays it's lonely tune
says goodbye to life beneath a lovers moon.

I can relate to this lonliness for sure. Memories are precious, but at times they seem to haunt our hearts.
