brown-eyed susan

brown-eyed susan

some folks think you're plain
i like how you look
seen you stretched and lain
your nose in a book

seen you in the field
standing straight and tall
seen you nearly kneeled
didn't see you fall

a circle of sun
surrounds your sweet face
expression of fun
you don't see in lace

be for my supper
an unspoken grace
and I won't suffer
any loss of face
