Seasons

I asked when we'd fulfill our dream
of marching to a different drummer
of living on honey and a soft sunbeam
you said when the sun shines in the summer.

I asked when we'd build our place
finally together to have it all
wake each morning to each others face
you said when he leaves change in the fall.

I asked when you would return to me
mend my heart that you did splinter
when would my pain be set free
you said when the snow falls in the winter.

I asked when we'd finally write our song
and in harmony we would sing
to each other we would belong
you said when the flowers bloom in spring.

Each time you promise me you'll say
then to leave you find a reason
guess alone I'll find a way
to weather every season.
