Stolen Democracy

by rondo

Stolen Democracy

They piss on our constitution
Fuck you people we don’t care
Corporations get our representation
With the smack of a gavel from the supreme courts chair

The Oligarchy stole our republic
Those with wealth make the rules
Until we unite and rise above it
The middle class remain rich men’s tools

I can’t believe there is little upheaval
Against the Supreme Court’s recent evil
Have we become that lame and passive?
To let them give our rights away
I would have expected opposition massive
I suppose Americans would rather play

They keep us like a rat or gerbil
Running around upon their wheels
Jumping over rich man’s hurdles
Kept at bay beneath their heels

The tyranny of the Supreme Court’s ruling
Is giving corporations more power than most
These corporate oligarchs my poem is odeing
Have got democracy by the throat

When a business has more say than a flesh and blood voter
It stinks to high court heaven with a supreme court odor

Citizens United... vs. the wishes of the people. What a crock that decision was - Inc. trumps heartbeat! Especially love this stanza, Ron:

They keep us like a rat or gerbil
Running around upon their wheels
Jumping over rich man’s hurdles
Kept at bay beneath their heels

Maybe this is why nobody has the time or strength to cry out?

Keep on tellin' it like it is, my friend. Cheers, Mary Ann

Americans are passified by sports and soaps and low gas prices and unaware as to the gradual consequence of these rulings insuring an Oligarchy government...sure it seems logical that those with most money would make the best rules as a form of smartest and brightest kind of thing but the corruption of money and power is all consuming and rights and enviroments are squandered in its wake that is why our forefathers established a democratic republic with a socialistic oversight...thanks MA for your comments and poems that influence thought and conscience...peace

One of the beautiful things about GP is that some of the poems one reads stimulates a curiosity that needs to be satisfied. I was extremely interested in the message in this write Ron and did some research. I read a profile on Robert Reich whose thoughts were very similar [b]“A funny thing happened to the First Amendment on its way to the public forum. According to the Supreme Court, money is now speech and corporations are now people. But when real people without money assemble to express their dissatisfaction with the political consequences of this, they’re treated as public nuisances and evicted.”[b]. - Robert Reich. Have you read any of his books Ron? ~ Phoebe~

G'day Ronald...
The bottom line is the same the political world over Ronald;
Laws are made to protect the rich, and jails are built for the
impoverished. There needs to be awareness though; revolutions are not something of long ago history. The masses are still out there.
Thanks mate

Some times I feel just like you put it; have we become that lame and passive? You cannot get a right winger to say anything on site anymore and it is not because they are passive it is because they are a bunch of dirty sons of bitches. That may be my dirty south coming out in me. Mitt being bank rolled by these super packs; I sure hope that what they are saying does not become the truth that money chooses the president.

I hope the American people will not be blinded by their bankrolls.

BWP... James... Sorry you made me hot.

Maybe their bank rolls should open some eyes; the average worker works as hard as he can and barely brings home five hundred dollars a week being taken by the IRS for one third of his pay and just because this man is bring in hundreds of thousands he does not pay the same percentage of his earnings. They donate millions of dollars to prop up a good for nothing flip flopper with the Grand Old Party Republicans. Are their earning so much that their donations are far lower than the taxes they would have to pay or is there another agenda in play?

How can any of us feel at peace with the wacky nature of our congress and the supreme courts; they have highjacked every damn one of us and some damn idiots are too blind to see it.
