are we getting old?

by Rabbitt

are we getting old?

no answer
on Don's two phones
he catches up with us
coming back-
couldn't find the lake

last week
he took
a group walking
and couldn't find
the trail

ginny carrys
the back end
of the kayak
up the hill
I stop, she falls

last week
Marge
skinned her knee
tripping
over sea weed

but we're not-
I say, we're not
getting old!
we're only as old
as we feel

If you woke me up
and said, "Say your age, quick!"
I'd probably tell you
forty
(forty with a hang-over)

I have been stoned but never had a hang over so the feeling is quite alien to me. I don't feel the need to be plastered anymore; I guess I've gotten old when one hit off a joint is all I can take and a shot of Captain Morgan;s Rum in my morning coffee gives me a headache.

Does getting old mean over the hill? It sure does not mean walking down the hill is any easier, so I just lay down and roll that is a lot more fun; but not over crabgrass.

Nice lighthearted poem Bob... BWP... James...

I like your point of view, James. Although I am getting older, I don't consider myself old. I do feel stiff and groggy in the morning though. I work that out (depending on the day) with Yoga, walking, kayaking, and working in my garden and yard. I drank my quota nearly thirty years ago, so I have left the rest for others. Bob
